Our Journey to Net Zero

Refreshment Systems has been off setting it’s Carbon Footprint through our support of the Kenyan Improved Cook Stove Project, which we have supported for the last 14 years.

All emissions created by the company through the provision of our services are calculated and off-set by the support of this project.

Further examples of our corporate responsibility come in the form of our ISO14001 accreditation.

Our Net Zero plans are in-line with a target for Net Zero 2045 for ALL SCOPES 1, 2 and 3 and ALL DIRECT RSL BY 2030.

For those not fully aware of what Scopes 1,2 and 3 really mean for us all – here’s a diagram to illustrate:

Understanding Scope 1, 2 ,3 emissions

We have established our baseline after a comprehensive audit of our carbon emissions and energy consumption:

Our Targets

Set Targets: Based on the audit, we are setting ambitious but achievable targets for reducing our company’s carbon emissions, in line with the science-based targets for net-zero emissions by 2045.

In recent times we have experienced 3 years of continuous growth as a business which represents challenges when driving our carbon footprint down. We are fully focussed on driving our footprint down whilst simultaneously growing as a business.

Investing in Energy Efficiency: RSL has identified and continues to implement energy-efficient measures to reduce the company’s energy consumption, such as upgrading lighting systems (PIR lighting in all offices since 2015), optimizing HVAC systems (climate control/heating), and investing in energy-efficient equipment and appliances where possible and when new technologies allow.

Transition to Renewable Energy: Transition to renewable energy sources such as wind, solar, and hydro. This will involve installing solar panels or purchasing renewable energy credits to offset our company’s carbon emissions.

Renewable Energy:

  • Solar panels by 2026 across all depots
  • Electrification of fleet, cars/light vans on replacement to other vehicles as and when range and charging permits

Supply Chain Management: Full Supplier Evaluation to Scope 3 mapping by end of 2024

Implement Low-Carbon Technologies: RSL has invested in low-carbon technologies such as electric/hybrid vehicles and energy-efficient IT systems to reduce our company’s carbon footprint. The latter has been through our efficient telemetry enablement across the national estate of our machines that we manage and maintain which has improved operational efficiencies by nearly 20% over the last 2 financial years.

Adopt Circular Economy Practices: RSL is looking to adopt further circular economy practices such as waste reduction, recycling, and repurposing to minimize waste and emissions.

Engage Employees and Stakeholders: RSL is engaging employees, customers, and other stakeholders in the company’s sustainability efforts. This has involved setting up sustainability committees, offering sustainability training, and sharing progress updates on our sustainability goals.

Monitor and Report Progress: We are regularly monitoring and reporting on our company’s progress towards achieving the net-zero emissions target and this will continue for our journey. This can help to identify areas for improvement and ensure that RSL remains on track to achieve its sustainability goals.

WHAT OUR CUSTOMERS SAY

Our customers are at the heart of everything that we do. If they are not achieving their goals then neither are we. Their satisfaction is very important to us and we believe that delivering what our customers want and need, means that we can form a long-lasting partnership.

We’ve been using RSL now for well over 10 years. In a highly competitive market they have always maintained top quality products and service. Professional, innovative and reliable but with a personal friendly touch, I would have no hesitation in recommending their services.

Keoghs Solicitors

We approached RSL after finding out that they could supply the Vitro coffee machines (which we wanted in our new offices). They were able to offer us the best solution to meet our needs. We are so happy with the service that we have received so far, that we are looking to use them in some of our other sites.

Virgin Money

We can’t thank the team enough, from helping us with the colour schemes to menu boards and point of sale materials, they have just been brilliant!
