Reducing our impact, year after year

Our Road to Net Zero

We have been measuring and offsetting our corporate carbon footprint since 2008 and continue to build on this through a long-term carbon reduction programme.

Our Net Zero strategy covers Scopes 1, 2 and 3, with ambitious targets designed to reduce emissions throughout our own operations and wider supply chain.

Our use of telemetry across the machines we manage has already helped improve operational efficiencies by nearly 20% over two financial years.

Our current priorities include:

  • Solar panels across our depots
  • Further electrification of our operational and engineering fleet
  • Energy-efficient equipment and IT systems
  • Improved route planning and telemetry
  • Supply-chain carbon mapping
  • Waste reduction, recycling and reuse

Who are we

Green is in our DNA

Reducing our environmental impact means looking at every part of how we operate — from fleet and energy use to technology, supply chain and the lifecycle of our equipment.

Our ambition 2045

ISO 14001 supported

  • Net Zero across Scopes 1, 2 and 3, with direct RSL
  • operations targeted for 2030.

Measure. Reduce. Improve.

Turning carbon data into action.

RSL has established a carbon baseline and reports progress annually. As the business grows nationally, the focus is on decoupling growth from carbon growth through smarter routing, lower-carbon transport, more efficient infrastructure and stronger supply-chain management.

How we are reducing impact

Practical action across the business.

Energy efficiency

PIR-controlled lighting, heating and climate-control improvements, and more efficient equipment, appliances and IT.

Lower-carbon fleet

Progressive transition towards lower-emission and electric vehicles where operationally practical.

Smarter technology

Telemetry, remote monitoring and dynamic route planning help reduce avoidable mileage and unnecessary call-outs.

Circular economy

Maintenance, repair, refurbishment and component replacement extend equipment life, supported by WEEE compliance.

The pathway

From measurement to meaningful reduction.

The strategy focuses first on reducing emissions within RSL’s own operations, while progressively improving measurement and influence across the wider value chain.

Measure

Annual carbon reporting establishes where emissions are generated and where action can have the greatest impact.

Reduce

Improve fleet, routing, energy use, infrastructure and operational efficiency to lower direct emissions.

Influence

Work with suppliers, logistics partners and procurement decisions to improve Scope 3 performance.

Net Zero

Target direct RSL operations by 2030 and all Scopes 1, 2 and 3 by 2045.
